President’s Message Mark Hooker It is hard to believe it is May already. It is quieter here in Golf Lakes as many of our winter residents have returned to their homes for the summer. To those leaving this month we wish you a safe journey and good summer. This summer 14 cul-de-sacs will be paved. With good weather this will start in June. Our staff will complete many summer jobs and our park will be much quieter. The North 9th Street gate and the 53rd Street gate will be closed 24 hours a day. Remember your clickers. Each month during the summer and early fall I will highlight one of our committees. This month is the Activities Committee. Activities Committee is one of the busiest groups of volunteers in the park. Terry Keller and Ed St. John are the co-chairs. There is activity planned for all year not just the winter season. Social/Coffee Hour is held each Saturday in the clubhouse and all residents and guests are invited. Scheduling the various activities that are held year-round in the clubhouse is also their responsibility. Terry Keller handles this important duty. During the summer they organize and schedule potlucks at a variety of restaurants and three picnics (Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day). They are also responsible for the Welcome Back Picnic in November. Decorating the clubhouse for the different holidays is another of their duties along with the Parking Lot Sale in the early spring and the Sports Mixer in January. This is a busy committee, and they can always use new members. If you would like to help them on any of these duties/activities, contact one of the co-chairs. They do have a lot of fun as well as work. It is a good opportunity to meet new friends. At the March Communication meeting, I asked for your suggestions on things you would like to see done to improve Golf Lakes or any questions you had relating to Golf Lakes. We had many responses. Thank you. The Board has held several workshops to discuss your comments and questions and suggestions. The Board replied to your responses at the April Communications meeting. The responses were presented by various Directors. If you were unable to attend that meeting and have a specific question on what you turned in, please feel free to call me at my home phone 941/751-6738. If the phone goes to voice mail, please leave your name and phone number so I can return your call. Enjoy your summer. We look forward to your return.
